Spend the Night Writing Dangerously
Date Published: 18/10/2011
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) gets bigger every year and this year the Gary Holland Centre will host a five-hour writing marathon; the Night of Writing Dangerously, from 5-10pm Saturday 12 November.
Attendees are encouraged to come along to work on their NaNoWriMo novel, a challenge which involves writing a complete 50, 000 word novel between 1 and 30 November.
Last year more than 200, 500 participants entered NaNoWriMo from across the globe, collectively writing a total of 2,872,682,109 words during the competition. This will be the second year the City has offered a NaNoWriMo program.
Places for the Night of Writing Dangerously are limited to 50, so be sure to register your interest. Participants will need to bring their own writing material and power boards will be provided for laptops.
Guest Authors Bevan McGuiness and Anna Jacobs will be on hand for the evening to provide advice and support to entrants. Encouragement exercises with spot prizes will run throughout the night and all attendees will receive a 'show bag' and go in the running to win a door prize of writing and reading related goodies.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels, encouraged aspiring writers to make the most of the opportunity to work with celebrated authors: “If you are keen to be a part of a global writing challenge, then I encourage you to register for the Night of Writing Dangerously.
“This is the first time in the competition’s 12 year history the City has offered a writing marathon for NaNoWriMo with published-author mentoring.
