PhotoVoice Winners 2011
Date Published: 30/09/2011
The Act Belong Commit PhotoVoice Awards were a highlight of the week at the City of Rockingham.
Winners of this year’s competition were announced at a special ceremony held Wednesday night 28 September.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels said he was captivated by some of the thought provoking, beautiful, quirky and sincere entries in the PhotoVoice Competition this year.
“In its third year, the PhotoVoice competition is now an annual event held to coincide with Mental Health Week.
“Entrants submit a photo depicting how to keep mentally healthy, together with a caption, which gives the image a ‘voice’.
“This year the competition again attracted a good response from the community with at total 360 images submitted, which were narrowed down to about 100.
“Judges had the challenge of assessing the quality and artistic merit of entries as well as how the photos, together with the ‘voice’ caption component, related to the Act Belong Commit theme.
“The Act Belong Commit theme has made an important difference in the way we relate to mental health issues. It is big step forward to become more comfortable speaking about mental health and we are becoming more open and aware of the things we can all do to care for our mental health.
“By adapting our lifestyles through acting, belonging and committing to groups and activities we can help to improve and safeguard our mental health and wellbeing.”
“I would like to acknowledge the considerable support of our sponsors of this year’s competition
Healthway and the Act-Belong-Commit message, PhotoCoffee, the Rockingham Good Guys and Rockingham Shopping Centre for their support and the wonderful help provided by the Rockingham Photography Club.”
“I would like to congratulate all finalists and winners of this year’s PhotoVoice competition and I thank everyone that took the time to submit an entry.”
Images will be on display at the Gary Holland Centre for the next three weeks.
