Date Published: 2/09/2011
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels yesterday launched six new pieces of free fitness equipment, which has been installed at the request of community members at three sites around the lake at City Park, Rockingham.
At a cost of approximately $30, 000, Mayor Sammels said the new equipment is an example of the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community in improving their health and wellbeing: “The City’s Health and Wellbeing Plan highlights the importance of physical activity and we increasingly hear the message that we all need 30 minutes low impact exercise per day to help maintain our health and our weight and reduce the risk of serious diseases.
“We received suggestions about outdoor fitness equipment from all sectors of our community including the Junior Council, the Active Ageing Reference Group and through the Draw the Line for a Healthy Rockingham project.
“The equipment is designed to provide free, fun way to get a complete exercise experience, and with regular use, will help increase cardiovascular fitness and strengthen specific muscle groups.”
Three stations of two pieces of equipment are situated around this lake at 250m intervals and include: a Stepper, Butterfly Press, Ab Cruncher/Chin Ups, Cross Trainer, Cycle Seat, and Shoulder Press.
The equipment is suitable for use by teenagers through to seniors.
In conjunction with the launch Body Prep will be running three personal training sessions per week for the next six weeks to instruct people how to use the equipment. Session information and bookings can be directed to the City of Rockingham Health Services 9528 0315.
