Doggie Christmas at the Pound
Date Published: 7/12/2011
Ten impounded dogs got an unexpected treat last week when doggie indulgence creators Norma and Alysia from Barkday Paw-ty arrived to host a special doggie Christmas Party at the pound.
City of Rockingham’s Coordinator, Ranger Services, Kristi Milana, was pleased the dogs that could remain impounded over Christmas had the opportunity to enjoy some special treats:
“We expect these dogs could stay here in the impound facility over the holiday season. Some of these animals have escaped from their yards and it can be very tricky to track down the owner when a dog has no registration or microchip.”
“Dog owners are required by law to have all dogs over the age of three months registered with Local Councils. Sterilised dogs only cost $10 per year to register, and it could mean the difference between being reunited with your pet.”
The City’s impound facility can hold up to 40 dogs at a time, and includes individual bedding, built in water and food dispensers, a ventilation system, and a fenced off lawn area.
City of Rockingham Mayor Sammels commended the work of Rangers: “Our Rangers spend most of their time dealing with dog related incidents. I would like to recognise their dedication to helping re-home and re-unite animals with their owners.
“Over the past financial year 1128 dogs were impounded and of those 1103 were re-united with their owners or found new homes. This is an excellent result and one to be proud of.
“If you are thinking of adding a new furry member to your family over the holiday season, consider adopting one of the dogs that will be impounded over Christmas. Many of them have lovely personalities and would make excellent pets and companions.”
