Community BBQ Local Winner
Date Published: 18/05/2011
This April, residents got to know their neighbours with 15 City supported Community BBQs taking place throughout the region.
Launched at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, Port Kennedy Park on National Neighbour Day, Sunday 27 March, the City’s Community BBQ Project initiative saw more than 400 residents participating in community BBQs in their local area with the aim of getting to know their neighbours and helping to build safe and supportive communities.
Community members who hosted a Community BBQ as part of the project, were entered in a draw to win their own Barbecue, to the value of $200, donated by Bunning’s Warehouse Rockingham. Second and third place winners will receive Food Vouchers donated by Malibu Fresh Food Essentials.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels was pleased with the new initiative:
“Any activity that helps to build supportive and engaged communities is an important project to support.
“I hope many new friendships and networks have been created from the first Community BBQ project.
“I would like to congratulate all of those who supported Neighbour Day, and those who held a community BBQ either at their home or local park.
“Congratulations also to the winner of this year’s generous prize, Maggie Tait from Safety Bay. Bunnings Rockingham generously donated $200 towards Maggie’s prize, well done.
