City Celebrates International Day for People with a Disability
Date Published: 1/12/2011
On Thursday 1 December, the City of Rockingham celebrated International Day for People with Disability (IDPD) with a free community barbeque from 11am to 2pm at Churchill Park, on the Rockingham Foreshore.
The City has worked in partnership with Disability Services Commission Local Area Coordinators and Intework to host this event. In December every year, ‘International Day of People with Disability’ is celebrated worldwide recognising the achievements and contributions of people with disability.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels said it’s an important day to build relationships and raise awareness about disabilities: “The day brings together people with disabilities and the general community.
“IDPD day showcases the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with a disability, and I would invite people to come along and celebrate the day with us.
“It is important to acknowledge that every person in our community contributes to our community and to making Rockingham a great place to live.
“The City is currently nearing the end of the development of its reviewed Disability Access and Inclusion Plan that will be implemented over the coming three years. We have come so far in terms of access and inclusion, and it is exciting to see the City is working towards achieving even greater things in the area of access and inclusion in the coming years.”
