Frequently asked questions
The following are the most commonly asked questions of the City of Rockingham. Further information is available by calling our customer service team on (08) 9528 0333.
1. My neighbour’s dog continually barks. Can anything be done?
Yes, action can be taken to resolve such problems. The first thing to do is to discuss the situation with your neighbour in a calm and friendly way. If this is not possible, or if the problem persists, you should ring the City on 9528 0333 to speak with a ranger.
2. How and where do I register my dog?
Dog registrations can be completed in person at the City's Administration Centre; Cnr Civic Boulevard and Central Promenade, Rockingham.
Alternatively, you can lodge an online enquiry, e-mail council@rockingham.wa.gov.au or telephone (08) 9528 0333 to have a form sent out to you.
3. My dog’s tag has been lost/destroyed. How do I get a new one?
You can get a replacement tag for your dog by contacting Customer Services on (08) 9528 0333 or you can come in person to the City’s Administration Centre and a new tag will be supplied.
4. My bin wasn’t emptied today. Can I get it collected?
Please contact our Waste Services Department on (08) 9528 8550.
5. My rubbish was damaged or stolen. What can I do?
Please contact our Waste Services Department on (08) 9528 8550 and we will arrange for your bin to be repaired or a new bin to be delivered.
6. My new house has just been built. How do I request a bin ?
Please contact our Waste Services Department on (08) 9528 8550 and we will arrange for a new bin to be delivered.

7. Can I obtain a copy of the plans of my property and is there a fee?
Yes, you can obtain copies of plans for dwellings and commercial buildings in the City.
The standard fee for a full set of plans is $42.00, however for properties that have an extensive number of plans to be copied (greater than A3 size), additional fees will be charged. These fees include GST and are subject to change.
Please call 9528 0333 or attend the City’s Administration Centre to order plans. Please note that copy plans take 48 hours to complete.
8. What structures require a building licence on my property?
Any building/structure being constructed on your property requires a building licence with the City. Please contact 9528 0333 for further information.
9. The dividing fence needs replacing and my neighbour won’t pay half. What can I do?
A copy of the Dividing Fences Guide is available from our Administration Centre. Additional advice can be obtained by contacting the Department of Commerce, Building Commission www.bc.wa.gov.au/dividingfences. Or alternatively contact the Dividing Fences Telephone on 1300 720 715.
10. Who is responsible for maintaining and/or repairing a crossover?
The property owner is responsible for maintaining and/or repairing a crossover. Please contact 9528 0333 for any further information regarding crossovers.
11. How do I obtain a rebate for the crossover on my new property?
You can call into our Administration Centre to collect an Application for Residential Crossover Subsidy, or alternatively download an application form from our website. For any further information, please contact 9528 0333.
12. Who do I contact about graffiti?
Graffiti vandalism on Council property can be reported by calling the City’s Graffiti Hotline on 1300 852 843 or by completing our online form.
Graffiti vandalism on private property should be reported to the State Graffiti Hotline on 1800 442 255.

13. Do you have a Justice of the Peace available at the City of Rockingham?
No, however a Justice of the Peace is available at the Magistrates Court located on Ako Lane, Rockingham Monday - Friday; 10.00am to 1.00pm. Call 9527 6433
14. When is the next junk/green waste pickup in my area?
There are three green waste and one junk collection per financial year. To find out the date of your next collection, please check the Rubbish and Recycling section of our website or contact our Waste Services Department on 9528 8550.
15. Who do I speak with regarding road works in my street?
Please call 9528 0333 in relation to any road works in your area.
16. How can I notify you of a change of address for my rates notice?
You can advise us in person at the City's Administration Centre or alternatively, you can call the customer service team on 9528 0333 or download a Change of Address form.
17. How do I get tip passes for my property?
Tip passes are included with the annual Rates Notice, for improved land.
If you have recently built on your property you can collect your tip passes by attending the Administration Centre in person with identification, alternatively complete our online enquiry form or email council@rockingham.wa.gov.au requesting tip passes to be posted out.
18. How do I report a pothole that needs repairs?
Please call 9528 0333 in relation to potholes that need repair and they will file a maintenance request for you. Or alternatively complete our online report a road problem form.
19. Elections and the Electoral Roll - does the City of Rockingham have electoral wards?
Yes, the City of Rockingham currently comprises 4 wards:
- Rockingham
- Safety Bay
- Coastal
- Baldivis

20. I need to contact a property owner, how do I get their details?
The Rates Book is located at the customer service counter in our Administration Centre which is available for public viewing.
