Garage Sale Trail 2017

The Garage Sale Trail is Australia’s largest weekend of reuse and community, with more than 10,000 garage sales held over Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2017.

The City is encouraging residents to host their own garage sale on these dates as a fun and free social way to declutter while getting to know the local community. The event challenges people to think differently about unwanted items by sending them a new home instead of landfill or cluttering homes. Recycling is great, but reusing is even better because it extends the value of an item and takes the pressure off the planet’s resources.

Registrations are free to local residents and groups. Each garage sale is given promotional support and a free listing on the Garage Sale Trail website. Before the weekend of garage sales, buyers see what sales are available in their local area.

Individuals, schools, businesses, groups are all invited to register. Why not host a street party with neighbours?Garage Sale Trail 21 and 22 October

Get involved

There are a number of ways to be involved in the Garage Sale Trail as a seller or a buyer:

Host a garage sale

Take a look around your home and find items you no longer use, which could be turned into cash. Register your garage sale early, as the first 1250 registrations receive a free promotional pack. Your garage sale will need a catchy name. Items can be listed on your sale page.

EBay is also offering sellers the opportunity to sell unsold items on their website after the event.

Host a group sale

The Garage Sale Trail is a great opportunity to fundraise for your school, group or organisation. The average group made around $650-$1,500 last year. By hosting a group sale, you can also connect with members of the community.

Join a group sale

If you would like to have a garage sale but do not want to host it at your home, then ask to join a local group sale to set up a stall.

Be a treasure hunter

For those bargain hunters out there, the Garage Sale Trail is the perfect opportunity to unearth hidden treasures in your local neighbourhood. Visit the Garage Sale Trail website the week before the 21 and 22 October to see what garage sales are on in your area. The website allows buyers to see what is on offer with an interactive map.
