Walking trails

Take a step in the right direction and borrow a pedometer from any of the City's four libraries.

A pedometer is a great tool to help measure the number of steps you take each day. The City of Rockingham has many interesting places to walk, including:

  • Point Peron
  • Rockingham Foreshore
  • Lake Richmond
  • Coastal shared paths
  • Various parks
  • Nature trails

The City, together with various community groups, has developed a "Stepping Out in Rockingham" brochure, identifying walks in the local area. Make sure you keep an eye out for the stencilled "Stepping Out" footprints with distance markers on the concrete footpaths. This map and a pedometer is available to borrow from any of the City's four libraries.

Individual or a group box containing 20 pedometers

A pedometer is a great tool to help measure the number of steps you take each day. As the number of steps people take on a daily basis varies, the pedometer is a great tool to help measure physical activity levels, with the aim of increasing the number of steps over time. Rockingham residents can borrow an individual pedometer or a group box from any of the City's four libraries.

Sports Equipment Bag

All community members have the opportunity to access the sports equipment bags through any of the City's four libraries. Borrow the sports equipment bag, organise your friends and have a go at any of the nine different sports and games included. It's a great way to introduce your children to a different sport or game each day, or to liven up your next picnic or family gathering. Bring back your inner child with the various items in each sports equipment bag: have a go at the 4.2m skipping ropes, cricket set, bocce set, kick the footy around, shoot some hoops, complete a touchdown, throw a frisbee or quoits. Enjoy the opportunity to access the sports equipment that you might not have seen for a while and encourage people within your family, your circle of friends, or your organisation to lead a more active and playful life.

Physical activity is an investment for your future.

If physical activity was a medication, an adult dose of 30-60 minutes per day would provide significant health benefits. There is scarcely anything else you could take daily that would provide such comprehensive health benefits. Your daily dose of physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of Australia's leading killers: heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Physical activity can also improve mental health, is accessible and has little or no cost.
