Award categories

The 2019 City of Rockingham Art Awards is open to 2D and 3D works.

Open

  • Any artwork
  • $5000 award prize (acquisitive)

The award-winning entry will be acquired for the City of Rockingham art collection. If the winning entry is valued in excess of the prize amount, the artist will accept the prize amount only.

Heritage Award

  • Works with a focus on the history and heritage of the Rockingham region
  • $4000 award prize

Indigenous Award

  • Works by artists who identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • $4000 award prize (acquisitive for 2019)

Heritage and Indigenous Awards are acquired on a rotating basis as part of the ongoing Dorothy Liley Art Acquisition, acknowledging her contribution to the Rockingham arts community.

Emerging Award

  • Works by practicing artists of less than five years who have not staged a solo exhibition
  • $2500 award prize

Local Resident Award

  • Works by artists residing within the City of Rockingham
  • $1500 award prize

Robert Carter Youth Award

  • Works by artists aged 12 to 18 years of age
  • $1500 award prize

The Robert Carter Youth Award acknowledges the considerable influence and mentorship offered by Robert Carter to artists over several decades.

3D Award

  • An award for any three dimensional media including sculpture, ceramics, wood, jewellery or textiles
  • $1500 award prize

People’s Choice

  • Voted for by visitors to the exhibition and announced two weeks after exhibition closing
  • $250 award prize
