Walking and cycling
How do you get around?
Most people use the car. A travel survey of residents in the Perth Metropolitan Area found that 80% of trips were by car and most were by the driver alone. There are travel alternatives available in your local area and many good reasons to use them. By walking, cycling or using public transport you can reduce car trips and reap the benefits such as:
- Personal savings from less car use
- Improving your health through physical activity
- Reducing local traffic and noise
- Reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions
- Reducing road crashes.

Bicycle Users Group (BUG)
Residents who cycle in Rockingham are invited to join the Rockingham BUG. This is an informal group who promote cycling issues and encourage others to get on their bikes!
What is a BUG?
A Bicycle User Group (BUG) is a group of people with shared interests and goals in relation to cycling, whose aim is to improve cycling conditions and opportunities in their local area. BUGs are usually made up of cyclists who enjoy bicycle riding for transport or recreation purposes and possess the necessary skills and enthusiasm to gain achievements for themselves and other cyclists.
Role of BUGs
BUGs vary in their role, depending on the size, skills and needs of the group but their main aim is to improve local cycling through:
- Providing a local forum for cyclists to discuss cycling related issues and progress cycling matters as a united group
- Working with local government to provide better facilities and safer routes for commuter and recreational cyclists
- Promoting the benefits of cycling with an aim to encourage others to cycle, through promoting social rides and having displays at local festivals and community events
- Developing strategies to improve cycling in their vicinity
- Becoming involved in transport planning and policy decision-making process for infrastructure improvements.
RoBUG - Who are we?
The RoBUG is a newly formed group of people who like to ride in Rockingham. We're community members who are interested in improving cycling conditions, and with the support of the local government would like to further promote cycling as a great way to have fun, stay healthy and get around our City.
What do we do?
As the RoBUG has just formed we are still deciding. Lobbying for improved cycling facilities, holding events and working with the local government are high priorities.
We need you!
