Water campaign

In June 2006, Council endorsed the involvement of the City of Rockingham in the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative’s (ICLEI) Water Campaign Program. The program aims to introduce better water management, reduce water consumption and improve local water quality.

The water campaign progresses through five milestones that guides participating local governments. These five milestones are as follows:

  1. Quantify and qualify water resource use
  2. Develop local water action plans
  3. Set water quality and water consumption targets
  4. Implement local water action plans
  5. Track and report goal-achievement.

The City has completed and has been awarded Milestones 1, 2 and 3.

Milestone 1 involved the preparation of an inventory of current water use practices throughout the organisation and the identification of areas in which changes can be made.

Milestones 2 and 3 essentially involved Council endorsed corporate and community water conservation and water quality improvement goals as well as creating a Water Action Plan to reduce water consumption and increase water quality for the City.

The City is currently working towards Milestone 4 which involves the implementation of the Water Action Plan and quantifying actions to demonstrate that the Council is moving towards its goals.
