Major Challenges for the Council
Community participation and ownership

Council will provide leadership and direction, however, the vision can only be achieved with community support and participation. Direct and honest communication between the City and the community is a key factor.

Creating the right image

Change negative perceptions of the City, promote the City's attributes and create a strong image that focuses on the lifestyle and investment opportunities.

Generating Government support

Developing major infrastructure projects and enhancements to core services are critical to the City's prosperity and can be achieved only through partnerships between federal, state and local governments.

Catering a growing population

Rockingham is a developing City with rapid growth in the youth population along side a growing ageing population, requiring an urgent need to provide services and employment opportunities to address the diverse range of needs.

Planning Rockingham's Future

Rockingham is one of the most rapidly growing area's in Western Australia.

The City of Rockingham is responsible for ensuring residents and other key stakeholders have access to services and facilities that enable current and future generations to enjoy the best possible lifestyle, education and career opportunities.

The City is committed to ensuring development not only takes advantage of the wonderful natural assets in the area, but enhances these assets so that Rockingham continues to be a great place to live and visit.

These objectives cannot be achieved without careful planning for both the short and long term development. After consultation with, and valuable input from, the community, the City has developed a Strategic Plan that charts the future direction

The Strategic Plan focuses on the opportunities of the area's natural beauty, coastal location, relaxed friendly lifestyle, and employment and investment potential. The Mission Statement recognises the importance of Council working in partnership with the people of Rockingham to achieve the Vision. Download the Strategic Plan PDF
