The City’s inaugural Artist in Residence program has welcomed Dr Sarah Robinson into the studio with an amazing project that explores the City’s recent Peelhurst Ruins archaeological dig in Golden Bay. Driving past the ruins of Peelhurst regularly, Robinson has often pondered on the possible stories that lie beneath.
Robinson’s research-led practice has found her exploring historical items such as a shilling coin from the 1880s, a pearl button that could have links to Western Australia’s pearling industry, as well as various other items recovered from the site. The work in this show directly responds to these found items. Through woodcut, drawing and digital values she explores the possibility of un-settling settler narratives.
